Abu Dhabi-based investment firm Modon Holding has reached a definitive agreement to acquire Arena Events Group, a leading provider of temporary infrastructure and event solutions. The deal includes the purchase of Theta Bidco, Arena’s parent company, in a move that will significantly expand Modon’s global footprint in the live events sector.
The acquisition is expected to enhance Modon’s capabilities in delivering large-scale, integrated services for high-profile events, aligning with the company’s broader growth strategy. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed, but it marks one of the most strategic expansions in Modon’s portfolio.
Arena’s Legacy in the Global Events Industry
Arena Events Group has built a reputation as a key player in the global event infrastructure industry, operating in over 10 countries, including the United States, the United Kingdom, and Saudi Arabia. The company has played a crucial role in some of the world’s largest sporting events, such as the 2024 Paris Olympics, multiple Formula 1 races, and Wimbledon.
In addition to its expertise in event infrastructure, Arena is also recognized for constructing modular stadiums and venues. Notably, the company designed and built a temporary stadium for the 2024 T20 Cricket World Cup in New York.
Arena has long-standing partnerships with major sporting organizations, including the PGA of America and LIV Golf, where it provides critical infrastructure for global golf tournaments annually. These collaborations have solidified Arena’s status as a trusted leader in the event solutions sector.
Strategic Growth for Modon Holding
The acquisition underscores Modon’s commitment to strengthening its international operations and enhancing its event services capabilities. Jassem Mohammed Bu Ataba Al Zaabi, Chairman of Modon Holding, emphasized the strategic importance of the deal, stating that Arena’s leadership in large-scale event infrastructure perfectly aligns with Modon’s long-term expansion strategy.
“Arena’s extensive experience and track record in delivering world-class event solutions position Modon for continued growth and diversification in global markets,” Al Zaabi said in a statement.
Bill O’Regan, CEO of Modon Holding, highlighted how Arena’s expertise and global client base would contribute to Modon’s expansion, particularly in North America.
“Arena brings decades of experience and strong relationships in the global events industry. This acquisition will enable us to extend our services into new markets, especially in North America, where Arena has a significant presence,” O’Regan said.
A Major Entry into North America
This acquisition marks Modon’s first major expansion into North America, a region where Arena Events Group generates its largest revenue share. With a workforce of more than 1,000 employees across the U.S., Arena has played a pivotal role in supplying infrastructure for prestigious events, including Formula 1 races in Miami and Austin, as well as large-scale sports and entertainment productions.
The global events sector has been experiencing rapid growth, with increasing demand for high-quality event infrastructure and hospitality services. Modon’s acquisition of Arena positions the company to capitalize on these trends, particularly as live event attendance continues to surge post-pandemic.
IHC’s Strategic Exit from Arena
The transaction also marks a key transition for Arena’s previous owner, International Holding Company (IHC), which had owned the company for the past three years. Syed Basar Shueb, CEO of IHC, expressed confidence in Modon’s ability to take Arena to new heights.
“Modon is the ideal partner to scale Arena’s capabilities further, particularly in the growing market for temporary infrastructure and event solutions,” Shueb said.
The acquisition is subject to regulatory approvals and other customary closing conditions and is expected to be finalized by Q1 2025.
Modon’s Expanding Global Portfolio
The Arena acquisition is the latest in a series of high-profile investments by Modon Holding. In December 2024, Modon completed the acquisition of La Zagaleta, the owner of one of Europe’s most exclusive residential estates in Spain’s Costa del Sol. The deal reinforced Modon’s position in the ultra-luxury real estate sector, marking a significant step in its broader international expansion strategy.
With its latest acquisition of Arena Events Group, Modon Holding is poised to become a dominant force in the global event infrastructure market, leveraging Arena’s extensive expertise and global network. As the demand for large-scale event solutions continues to rise, this strategic move positions Modon as a major player in an industry that thrives on innovation, precision, and seamless executions.
